How partnerships drive innovation in millions of cars

In today’s fast-moving tech landscape, innovation thrives on collaboration. That’s why strategic partnerships have become a smart accelerator in technology competition. Let’s take a closer look at how CARIAD is leveraging powerful alliances to bring automated driving to customers around the world.

  • Technology

Automated driving is one of the most complex technological tasks and its development requires high resources. CARIAD has teamed up with strong tech partners to accelerate the development and provide safe user experiences across all key mobility markets.

Scaling Automated Driving with Bosch and Qualcomm

CARIAD has joined forces with Bosch as development partner in the Automated Driving Alliance and Qualcomm as its System on Chip (SoC) partner to master automated driving for the western hemisphere.

Experts from CARIAD and Bosch are developing advanced driver assistance systems and automated driving functions up to Level 3 capabilities. By building one scalable software stack for all Volkswagen brands, CARIAD is reducing development cost and leveraging real-world data and scale. The aim is to make automated driving features affordable for all vehicle classes.

Driving the “In China, for China” strategy with local partners

China is not only the largest auto market globally – it's also setting new standards in speed of innovation, digital sophistication, and user expectations. Making digitalization a strategic imperative of the Volkswagen Group’s “In China, for China” strategy, CARIAD China has teamed up with XPENG to co-develop the China Electronic Architecture (CEA). The zonal E/E architecture will turn locally produced all-electric vehicles of the Volkswagen brand into software-defined vehicles. The China-specific architecture significantly reduces system complexity and cost while speeding up feature rollouts.

Within the CARIZON joint venture, CARIAD China and Horizon Robotics are developing an AI-powered ADAS system. It is designed for up to L2++ automated driving and the basis for the leap to L3, engineered specifically for traffic conditions and user expectations in China. Set to launch in 2026 with the Volkswagen brand model ID. AURA, the advanced ADAS system integrates cutting-edge AI technologies to make mobility smarter, safer, and more intuitive.

Powered by data, scale and strong partners

The future of mobility is too multi-layered to build in isolation. CARIAD’s partnerships are strong commitments to innovation. Because it’s not just about developing software - it's about transforming automotive mobility.
