CARIAD is a 100% subsidiary of Volkswagen Group. With about nine million vehicles sold annually, it is one of the largest automotive groups on the planet and unites loved car brands like Volkswagen, Audi, or Porsche and many others. CARIAD is on a mission to build one unified software platform and tech stack for all these brands, enabling them to excite their customers with digital experiences that can continuously be improved through over-the-air updates.
CARIAD in itself is a network of multiple companies: CARIAD holds stakes in more than 10 automotive technology companies, such as VAIVA or Volkswagen Infotainment that are focusing on different digitization aspects of cars. The network is moved by one purpose: Transforming Volkswagen Group to become a truly digital and software-enabled mobility provider.
Our home base is Germany, but our software is developed and delivered around the world, with focus on markets in Europe, the United States, China and India. Our software developers and engineers from over 90 different nationalities are spread across seven locations in German automotive and software hubs like Wolfsburg, Munich and Berlin. To foster automotive innovation on a global scale our teams in China, India and the US enable CARIAD to develop market-specific solutions and enhance the global customer experience.
CARIAD aims to increase the proportion of in-house software development continuously. At the same time strategic co-operations support our way of scaling our competences: together with Bosch we formed the Automated Driving Alliance to make partially and highly automated driving suitable for volume production, and thus available to the broad mass of consumers.
