We are an automotive software and technology company that bundles together Volkswagen Group's software competencies and further expands them, building upon a heritage of bringing automotive innovation to everyone.
Transforming automotive mobility
We live in an era of ever-changing mobility needs. Electrification, digitization and autonomization are fundamentally changing the car. Software has become the central design element and determines how customers will experience their car in the future. Technology is our key to transforming automotive mobility and making it safer, more sustainable, and more comfortable in a new way – for everyone, everywhere.
CARIAD is building the leading tech stack for the automotive industry, aiming to create a new automotive experience and increase the innovation speed of Volkswagen Group to make the car a sustainable, safe and seamlessly-connected mobility companion in a digital world.
Multiple Brands, ONE Software Platform
CARIAD is a 100% subsidiary of Volkswagen Group. With more than 10 million vehicles sold annually, it is one of the largest automotive groups on the planet and unites loved car brands like Volkswagen, Audi, or Porsche and many others. CARIAD is on a mission to build one unified software platform and tech stack for all these brands, enabling them to excite their customers with always-fresh digital experiences.
A network of many
CARIAD in itself is a network of multiple companies: CARIAD holds stakes in 15 automotive technology companies, such as diconium or Wireless that are focusing on different digitization aspects of cars. The network is moved by one purpose: Transforming Volkswagen Group to become a truly digital and software-enabled mobility provider.
A global mindset
Our home base is Germany, but we are about to establish campuses in different parts of the world. Currently, more than 4,000 international software developers and engineers from over 70 different nationalities work in software competence centers in Wolfsburg, Ingolstadt, the area of Stuttgart, Berlin and Munich. Also, we are closely co-operating with Volkswagen’s development teams in Seattle and Silicon Valley as well as China.
Growing competence with partners
Currently, about 10 % of the software code in Volkswagen Group is written in-house. CARIAD aims to increase the proportion of in-house software development to 60 % by 2025. Strategic co-operations support our way of scaling our competence: With Microsoft, for example, we have built the Volkswagen Automotive Cloud and are teaming up to develop an Automated Driving Platform, a development framework for automated driving functions.
