CARIAD and Bosch: Collaborative Development in Automated Driving
CARIAD and Bosch's Automated Driving Alliance is advancing scalable assisted and automated driving systems, aiming to make these technologies accessible and affordable across all vehicle classes.

CARIAD and Bosch are collaborating in the Automated Driving Alliance (Alliance) to develop a scalable platform for assisted and automated driving, making these functions affordable across all vehicle classes and accessible to everyone. By leveraging real-world data and an agile development approach, the Alliance aims to bring new driving functions to market efficiently and reliably, ensuring greater safety and comfort for drivers and passengers.
The Automated Driving Alliance: A Strategic Partnership
CARIAD and Bosch formed the Automated Driving Alliance in 2022 to accelerate the development of advanced driver assistance and automated driving functions. Experts from both companies are collaborating to develop scalable driving systems up to Level 3. In 2023, the Alliance deployed its first test vehicles to refine the jointly developed software stack using real-world data. Most recently, testing expanded to Japan and the US, where the Volkswagen ID. Buzz is evaluating the Alliance software stack in complex urban and highway scenarios.
Integrated and Continuously Tested
The Automated Driving Alliance has successfully integrated its scalable software stack, which is now operational in test vehicles and undergoing extensive validation on public roads. In 2024, the Alliance expanded testing efforts, refined software update cycles, and improved data processing workflows to support continuous optimization. Together, CARIAD and Bosch established a development ecosystem that allows engineers to test and implement software changes efficiently by using an agile methodology with short planning cycles and iterative development.
Data-Driven Development and Scalable Deployment
With the software stack fully integrated, the focus has shifted to refining the existing product and preparing for wider implementation. A key focus has been closed-loop test drives across Europe and the US to improve system reliability. Data collection plays a central role, optimizing AI models while ensuring compliance with privacy and data protection regulations.
The goal is to integrate production-ready software into vehicles efficiently while maintaining reliability and safety. This approach ensures that automated driving functions are developed, validated, and deployed effectively.
Progress in Testing, Software Cycles, and Data Processing
The Automated Driving Alliance has already achieved important milestones since it was founded:
- Expanded Testing Capabilities: Vehicles are tested in various conditions in real traffic, allowing for broader validation.
- Efficient Development Cycles: Software iteration times enable faster testing and improvements.
- Optimized Data Processing: Efficient data pipelines support data collection in multiple regions.
The Automated Driving Alliance is continuously improving its assisted and automated driving functions, focusing on responsible data use, reliable software integration, and scalable innovation.
