New CARIZON driver assistance launched with CEA architecture
Volkswagen debuts the new CEA architecture in China that includes CARIZON’s in-house ADAS for smarter, safer, self-learning driving. This marks a major milestone on the path toward higher automated driving levels.
The high-performance zonal China Electronic Architecture (CEA) has been launched with the first VW model in China. It also brings new driving comfort with CARIZON’s first in-house advanced driver assistance (ADAS) solution. Specially developed for China's complex traffic environments, the system is self-learning and engineered for both seamless and safe driving experiences.
CARIZON is the joint venture between CARIAD and Chinese tech company Horizon Robotics. Back in 2025 they announced their roadmap for in-house ADAS solutions. Now, the first driver assistance customer features have been delivered and introduced to customers with the all new VW ID.UNYX 07.
It marks a crucial milestone for the ambitious in-house development by CARIZON. The joint-venture is working on ADAS solutions on Level 2, Level 2++ and Level 3/4 for the Chinese market. In a next step, Volkswagen Group will also leverage its first in-house designed system-on-chip (SoC) together with Horizon Robotics that will power the future ADAS solutions developed by CARIZON.
Comfort and convenience for the drivers
Compared with previous vehicle generations, the CEA reduces the number of electronic control units by around 30%, significantly streamlining system complexity. This provides a stable foundation for advanced AI cockpit functions, China-specific driver assistance systems and full-vehicle over-the-air updates.
The first CARIZON ADAS features provide driver assistance on Level 2+. They launched with the CEA for the first time and are powered by Horizon’s Journey 6M Computing Solution on the all new “ADAS brain” high performance computer inside the CEA.
It offers advanced highway assistance features and auto-parking solutions that will greatly increase driving comfort and convenience fit to Chinese customers’ most frequent ADAS using scenarios. From automated lane changes by meeting near cut-ins to the handling of trucks beside with safer distance in the lane on the highway. From enabling the ADAS system to learn the route of auto-parking from the parking entrance to secured parking slot, to remotely control the car to park in and out with the mobile phone via Bluetooth connection.
The path towards Level 3
The range of autonomous driving capabilities powered by CARIZON is set to expand in 2026. Due to the “white-box approach” with full ownership of the in-house software development and system design, the launch of next-generation ADAS features is already on the horizon. CARIZON will introduce ADAS solutions on Level 2++ with Urban Navigate on Autopilot in China in 2026 offering even more urban capabilities and comfort on highways.
It is also the foundational step towards even more advanced solutions on Level 3/4. More than 700 ADAS experts at CARIZON are already working on the next-generation AI-powered, highly automated driving system in China.
