CARIAD Opens Automotive Software Campus
AI Power for the Volkswagen Group
Berlin, June 23, 2026 – Volkswagen Group CEO Oliver Blume and CARIAD CEO Peter Bosch, together with the President of the German Bundestag Julia Klöckner, the President of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) Hildegard Müller, and the President of the digital association Bitkom Ralf Wintergerst, today jointly opened the CARIAD Automotive Software Campus in Berlin.
Around 1,000 experts are working on AI technologies for the software-defined vehicle. As part of the global CARIAD network, they use artificial intelligence (AI) for software development for Volkswagen Group vehicles worldwide. The spectrum ranges from environment perception for automated driving systems to AI-based voice assistants.
CARIAD Develops AI-Based Key Technologies for the Volkswagen Group
Through the targeted use of AI, the Volkswagen Group is strengthening its in-house software development capabilities. Oliver Blume, Volkswagen Group CEO, said: "For the Volkswagen Group it is clear: The AI-defined vehicle stands for the next generation of mobility. We are driving this development forward consistently – with CARIAD, our strong brands and leading partners. At the Automotive Software Campus in Berlin, technology is being created that makes driving even safer, more comfortable and more attractive. This is an important building block of our transformation, with which we sustainably strengthen our competitiveness. And a further step on our way to becoming the global technology driver of the automotive industry."
Artificial Intelligence: From Perception to Interaction
With the opening of the Automotive Software Campus in Berlin, CARIAD is consolidating its expertise from what was initially seven locations into one central AI campus. Peter Bosch, CARIAD CEO, said: "The car of tomorrow speaks, hears and drives itself. At the Automotive Software Campus, we bring the senses and the brain for this to life – from environment perception to intelligent interaction with the human in the vehicle. For this, we develop scalable AI platforms and ensure a seamless, safe and reliable integration of AI applications in the vehicle. This is how we lift the customer experience in the vehicle to a new level through artificial intelligence."
From Code to the Street: CARIAD Bundles Tech Power in Berlin
The Automotive Software Campus in Berlin is part of the global CARIAD development network, which stretches from Mountain View and Bangalore to Shanghai and Hefei. The "From Code to Car" principle is implemented here. CARIAD relies on integrated in-house development. This close collaboration model accelerates development cycles and reduces costs.
At the campus in Berlin, CARIAD is demonstrating its transformation into a modern and competitive tech company, with AI as an integral part of all products and processes. Embedded in the Berlin tech ecosystem, the campus offers modern, open workspaces, flexible working models, as well as directly connected workshops and test labs. It is the ideal environment for developers who want to bring their code directly to the road.
Concrete Technologies in Series Development
At the Berlin Automotive Software Campus, CARIAD is developing central AI solutions that are close to series production for Volkswagen Group brands, including:
- AI-based CARIAD ADAS Stack: An integrated system for automated driving based on AI models throughout the entire development process. The first version of the CARIAD technology stack for automated driving will be used in the Volkswagen ID. EVERY1.
- AI-based CARIAD Digital Assistant: An AI assistant that understands the driver's intentions and wishes and handles complex tasks such as trip planning. CARIAD is developing the architecture from voice recognition to the orchestrator of the various AI agents in the vehicle. The technology stack will be used for the first time as "Voice Pilot" in the current model year of the Porsche Macan and Cayenne Electric, and will be integrated into other Group models from then on.
