YOUR TEAM

Your future team is a competence center for processes, methods and tools to enable the CARIAD Tech Centers in their daily work. The competence center focusses on the areas of Engineering Data Backbone, Business Intelligence & Reporting and Artificial Intelligence (AI). We are looking for a Ph.D student in the area of Safe AI. In particular, you will carry out research on safety argumentation enabling AI engineering over the entire lifecycle of an AI function. This activity will be part of a nationally funded public research project with a consortium of academic and industrial partners, similar to “KI Absicherung”, “KI Tooling” or “PEGASUS”. Your work will contribute towards existing and upcoming standards (for example, ISO 26262, SOTIF ISO 21448, ISO/PAS8800) dealing with safety of road vehicles. The contract is limited to three years.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • You will carry out research in the area of AI and vehicle safety focusing on perception tasks.
  • You will also disseminate your work by collaborating in related development activities at CARIAD, thereby gathering practical experience on this field.
  • You will extract and derive requirements and partial arguments for the process of extending the Operational Design Domain (ODD)
  • You will inspect the data for quality and completeness and establish appropriate criteria
  • You will establish metrics for the above mentioned topics and develop tests to assess them

WHO YOU ARE

  • MSc studies (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mathematics, or a related field with a strong focus on AI, Machine Learning, or Safety Engineering
  • Solid knowledge of machine learning and computer vision; especially in perception tasks (eg. computer vision, sensor fusion) and understanding of ODDs
  • Experience or familiarity with safety standards such as ISO 26262, SOTIF ISO 21448, ISO/PAS8800 is highly desirable
  • Hands-on experience in software development, proficiency in Python, deep learning frameworks, and with cloud-computing services
  • Strong problem solving skills with the ability to work independently and engage with both academic and industrial partners
  • Fluent in English; level B2 in German, for communication and reporting in the consortium
